Oh how I love this little story.
Some books I love for the storyline. The people in it are all good and fine but the happenings and the whereabouts is what reels me in.
And some I love for the details and the writing style. I love reading about strange places or different worlds and fictional towns. When you can see exactly in your mind what the writer is saying. When the words flow so pretty together no matter what they're writing about, it's lovely.
Some I love because they make me think and make me feel like I need to be a better human.
Then there's some I love for the characters. Which are usually my favorite books, because if there's anything I've learned about writing, it's that you cannot start stories or novels or books based on ideas. It has to start with characters. That's why people read!
And then every once in a while, few and far between is a book that has every single one of those loves all wrapped up into one wonderful book. This is one of those! I love every single thing about this book. I am an immediate die hard Ruta Sepetys fan. I was so surprised that this book was in the YA genre. And then I read an interview she did talking about how young readers are so intelligent and smart why NOT write a novel geared toward those kinds of people. YES!!! Why not indeed!?! I'm in love with this story and have whored it out to everyone I know. It's up there with The Help in my loved books. If there hadn't been two other people waiting for me to finish it so they could read it, I would have started it over and read it again!
