Only as high as I reach can I grow, Only as far as I seek can I go, Only as deep as I look can I see, Only as much as I dream can I be.

Break the rhythm... It's harder than hell
To be the courage to follow yourself
To declare your name as one and the same
With the whole human race, every face, every place

To give peace a chance with all of your worth
To breathe forgiving breath back to the earth
Beyond the dream...to throw your own love
Before hard bullets silnce the last dove

Louder than voices, deeper than words
The river is raging with or without this verse
Millions of people are out in the streets
Millions of people refuse to be meek

You are the noble, you are the wise, you are the human, you are the kind of hero we need

On the way to school this morning, there was a boy walking down the street wearing a hat that can only be described as a kitten. It was white and it had little ears and a little red nose. This guy was in high school. My son, who is 11, immediately started making fun of him. I was crushed. I thought I'd been setting a good example and teaching him right from wrong, in this regard at least. So I stopped the car and did my best to explain how important it is to be able to express yourself, and to not live your life by other peoples standards. If that guy likes that hat, then I love that he's wearing it. Changing the world really does start with our children. They're the next generation. The ones who's hands the worlds fate will be in.
Some days it's hard not to criticize what he's picked out to wear to school. Either because it doesn't match or because he's picked out his crappiest duds, but then if I tell him that he shouldn't wear that to school, I'm being hypocritical. It's a fine line sometimes with kids. I just want him to be himself and let others be who they are as well.

DO something

I'm always inspired by all things Jason Mraz. His songs, his writings, his beliefs and commitments. His blog this morning really resonated with me. I read it twice and thought to myself....I wish everyone could read this. So, I started forwarding it to people and copying and pasting in places I knew people would catch a glimpse. I think I'll even splurge and print a copy out and hang in the women's bathroom here at work. It's important.

Today is One Day Without Shoes. I made it up the 6 flights of stairs and out of the parking lot without a hitch but not without questions and many puzzled glances. But it's something I believe in doing....raising awareness of the people and children who have to live day to day without the protection of shoes on their feet. It's really eye opening when you are constantly aware of whats immediately in front of you. And no matter how impossible the situation seems, we can all do something.

"We ourselves feel like what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."

This is the blog that so inspired me this morning -

I blog about water and energy conservation and my love for the environment in hopes of inspiring and enrolling you into loving it as well. I blog about Marriage Equality because it's something I believe to be an important issue - one that represents how ALL PEOPLE are treated. In doing these things, I am aware that some people may be opposed to the issues and will speak up against them. Even as an environmentalist activist, I accept that my work may be criticized due to the amount of flying I do.

Therefore, I am committed and transforming the natural environment AND I am committed to standing up for Marriage Equality. I am not attached to your response. Whether or not you recycle or vote for Equality won't change my commitment. I will carry on. And while I do strive to have my community view the same possibilities as I, how many actually do doesn't factor into whether or not I take action.

Should any ones reaction or response sway my efforts - then I am too attached to the results and not committed enough to the possibility.

It also works like this. I am committed to being an artist. I am neither attached to making money or being poor. I am committed to being an artist.

I am committed to being your friend. I am not attached to you ignoring me when you are having a bad day. I am committed to being your friend.

Realizing this got me thinking about the utopia of World Peace and how to actually achieve it. It will start with each of us - at the individual level. World Peace doesn't happen by us waiting for it. Nor will it happen by us passing judgement about our President, our government and their policies, the many faith communities, schools or school bullies. World Peace won't happen by simply turning off the news and ignoring the problems either. It WILL happen when each of us takes responsibility in our own communities.

If there is anyone in the world that you have issues with, or anyone you know has issues with you, then you can count on there never being World Peace. If there are two people in your family who hold grudges against each other, then count on their never being peace for all the world to enjoy. This may be what the Prophecies mean when they say 'heal yourself and you will heal the world.' This is a fine example of the Oneness we as a Human Kind make up. You are One of a Kind.

If you would like to contribute to World Peace I invite you to:

-Start at home. Get complete with ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends. Clean up the rough edges with siblings.

-Own up to the lies you told your parents. If you believe anyone has ever lied to you, forgive..forgive..forgive!

-Take full responsibility of peace in your immediate surroundings and be love for your family, my family and for your Human Kind family.

-Be committed to big things and free yourself of any attachments you have to being accepted by your peers. Besides, when you remain committed, you will inspire and others will come around.

Life isn't fair, but it's still good

When in doubt, just take the next small step

Hate is unhealthy

It's okay to let your children see you cry

Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is like

Everything can change in the blink of an eye

Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful

Today IS a special occasion

Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age as an excuse

Always choose life

Forgive everyone everything

What other people think of you is none of your business

However good or bad a situation is, it will change

Your children get only one childhood

All that truly matters in the end is that you loved

Get outside. Miracles are waiting everywhere

If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone elses...we'd grab ours back

Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need
