i'm a proud mom. and not just because my little guy is cute and because he's a talented little artist in the making. i notice things. specially lately. he's the kid that's friends with everybody. not just the popular kids and not just the nerdys. when he's mentioned not liking someone at school i've asked him why and it's always because 'they're not nice to people'. he takes up for people and isn't afriad to sit with the kids that don't have many friends. i've even asked him before...how come you sit with him at lunch and he said 'cause he's a nice kid and he's funny'. i just love that! he doesn't conform at all, which makes me proud because i can't say the same for myself when i was his age in school. he's different and i love that. he's a sweet person through and through. he always surprises me with things he says. he told me the other day that he 'wasn't your average garden boy' to which i laughed and asked what he meant and he told me that he was a mommas boy and always would be. nothing wrong with that! he always, always gives me random hugs no matter where we are or who's around. even if he's around friends. he made two bad grades on his report card and admitted to me that it was because he was lazy and promised me he would do better. he currently has all a's and b's!
 

he made me proud again this morning. we had a tiff before school and he said something that wasn't very nice. i'd been at work maybe 30 minutes and he called me from school to tell me that he was sorry about this morning and that he loved me. made my whole day. he always asks me how my day was. he tells me thank you for dinner. he always offers me some of his candy or his food. he admits when he's wrong and says he's sorry.
 

i don't know what i ever did right, but i'm so thankful. it's sad that he is such a great human being and his father had absolutely zero to do with that. and he is missing out.

 

of course he has his moments and his faults. all kids do. he's got a lazy streak two miles wide and he loves to argue sometimes and he will clean his room and in two hours its a tornado again. he loves to mix his wet towels with his dirty clothes and is THE pickiest eater i've ever seen in all my years of life. but if those are my biggest pet peeves? if that's all i have to deal with and put up with from this kid? i'd say that's pretty dang awesome.
